每個國家都有很多習慣用語，他們非常生動有趣，在這里，我們學習幾個美英的習慣用語。

一、 to get one's foot in the door
字面上的解釋是：把某人的一只腳伸到門里。真實的意思是：向著某個行業(yè)或是團體邁出了第一步；或者說得到了一個將來發(fā)展的契機。有人說，這個習慣用語跟早年的推銷員有關。在沒有電腦、信息不發(fā)達的時候，美國的一些公司經常雇用推銷員挨門挨戶賣產品。和現在的人一樣，主人一般都不喜歡這樣的情景，更不會請推銷員進屋，所以他們首先要做到的就是把一只腳伸進門里，這樣子主人就沒辦法關門了。在這里我們舉兩個例子來感受下。

二、 to leave the door open
字面上的意思就是把門開著，真實含義是“不排除任何可能性”。

三、What's up?
在國外，你很少會聽到人家打招呼用我們在課本上學習的問候方式，"How are you?" 最常用的就是"What's up?" 它等同于"What's happening?"或"What's new?" 意思是：“最近在忙什么呢？有什么新鮮事嗎？”這時候我們一般做答："Nothing much!"或"Nothing new!"當然如果你碰到了什么好事也可以與之分享。

四、 Give me a ring.
給我一點鈴聲嗎？當然不是。"give me a ring"及"ring me up"和"call me"是同義詞，“打電話給我”的意思。
