Barney:(to
Ted) They’re edging you out.
Ted: No,
they’re not edging me out. He’s my best friend.
Barney:
Just keep your eyes open. That’s all I’m saying. Little things are gonna be
changing around that apartment.
Robin:(to
Barney) Come on, Barney. You’re just being paranoid.
JULIE:
Ross is so crazy about you, and I really wanted you to like me, and, it's
probably me just being totally paranoid, but I kind of got the feeling that
?
1. paranoid: someone who is paranoid is worried all
the time that people do not like them, that bad things are going to happen to
them etc., when this is not true原意是“過(guò)分猜疑的;妄想的”,形容一個(gè)人“多慮”,總擔(dān)心別人不喜歡他,有不好的事要發(fā)生,等等。
例:
I was so
paranoid at one point that I was refusing to answer the door.(我一時(shí)太多疑,沒(méi)去開(kāi)門。)
The
mysterious phone calls were beginning to make him feel paranoid.(神秘電話開(kāi)始讓他疑神疑鬼。)
By 1982,
he was so paranoid about his health that he wore plastic gloves at all times.(他總過(guò)分擔(dān)心健康問(wèn)題,所以到1982年他都一直帶著塑料手套。)
?
2. have a lot on your mind: to have a lot of problems
to worry about, especially when this means that you do not concentrate on other
Since
the divorce, Linda's had a lot on her mind.(離婚后,琳達(dá)心事重重,無(wú)暇他顧。)
I'm
sorry I wasn't paying attention; I have a lot on my mind at the moment.(不好意思,我剛才走神了,想心事了。)
?
3.
stressed out: so worried and tired from problems you have to deal with
continuously that you cannot relax
I always
eat when I'm feeling stressed out.(我感到焦慮時(shí),就不停地吃。)
By the
end of the tour, the band was totally stressed out.(巡回演出結(jié)束,整個(gè)樂(lè)隊(duì)都心力交瘁了。)
One of
my adult students was a stressed-out mother.(我的成年學(xué)生中,有一個(gè)是天天擔(dān)心子女的母親。)
I'm
trying to have a few early nights because I'm feeling stressed out at the
?
4.
preoccupied: worrying so much about a particular problem that you cannot think
What's
wrong with Cindy? She seems a little preoccupied.(辛迪怎么了?
He's completely preoccupied with all the wedding preparations at the moment.(他這會(huì)正全身心地籌備婚禮,無(wú)暇他顧。)
